Wed, Nov 6: Boat ride to north side of island

Boat has no shade, no bathrooms, maybe 16 feet or so.  Uncle Walter said it was a great day to go, but the swells were pretty high (for us).  In summer, ocean is flat, in winter too rough, so now, in fall, it is in between, with some reasonable days and some bad days.  Uncle Walter's boat is moored in the bay by Eddie's house.  We waded out to the boat.

We saw turtle rock,

waterfalls, and the highest sea cliffs in the world.  It was a good trip, even though the swells were large.  You can take a helicopter tour of the cliffs, but only from Maui.

We would hike to the left falls tomorrow:

The rock strata is various layers of lava flows:

A shelter for campers:

And their shower:

On the way back, on the south side, Turtle Rock again, with Maui in the background.

There were a couple of "oasis" nestled against the sea.

And a favorite surfing spot.
